Since this was a big birthday for Brian, we decided we had to throw a little party! It worked out that Brian’s family was in town (all the way from Norway and New York!) We invited a few friends, fired up the grill, and chilled in the backyard all night long. It was a perfect and simple celebration!
We made some homemade J-Dawg sauce (J Dawgs is a hot dog place here in Utah with amazing hot dogs!) I found the recipe on this site. Brian’s birthday poster was inspired by Angela Hardison. I made the poster, then printed it as an engineer print at Staples for $3 (!!!)
There was a little spill, due to my over-zealous watermelon stacking. 😉
Not one of us noticed Brian’s name spelled wrong on the cake until 10 year old Camilla pointed it out! Happy Birthday Brain!
And a quick family photo of us at the end of the night. (Ellie was just about to go to bed)
Happy Birthday honey bunches! We love you!
You throw the cutest little parties Miss Lex! That poster is way good looking. And that is too funny about the cake! 🙂
So fun that you threw a party for him! That is so funny about the cake! I order cakes for part of my event managing and one time they TOTALLY mispelled a name. I was mortified. haha.
I'm pretty sure you're the cutest little wifey I ever did see.

That looks like so much fun! What a good wife to plan and have a fun birthday party!
brain…. hahahaha
wow, brain 🙂 glad you had an awesome party!
How did you make the poster? Would love to see a tutorial! Love it!!
I would love a tutorial for that poster as well!! Super cute party!
I would also love to learn how you did this poster!
I love the poster that you made! Would you mind telling us how you made it or what program you used? Thanks for your help!
Thank you! I opened all my photos in photoshop, changed them to black&white, sized them to 4×6, then copied and pasted them over to my poster size (i believe it was sized as 24×46) The text was also made in photoshop just using the text tool and shape tool. 🙂
It would also be easy to just print a bunch of 4×6 photos and glue them onto a poster board or in a frame!

did you have any issues getting staple to print your poster? online it says engineering prints are "not suitable for photo images" so i wanted to check. thanks!
I didn't have any issues at all! It gave me the warning thing online, but that was about it. The photos turned out great (if you look close up you can tell it's not printed at photo quality, but they're so small it didn't matter!) Good luck!
This is so awesome! I bet he loved this. My husband turns 30 in a few months so I'm excited to try some of your ideas–love the engineer print and the homemade j dawgs!! Also–are you familiar with the cake wrecks blog? I think you should submit the picture of that cake over there, it's pretty funny. 🙂
