“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”
— Erma Bombeck  (saw this quote here and fell it love with it!)

Happy Tuesday, my friends! We’ve been busy celebrating the good ol’ USA this weekend – and boy, did we have fun doing so. BBQ’s, splash pads, and watermelon galore! My girls were beyond thrilled to see so much family & friends this weekend! 🙂 Brian and I even got to sneak in a little date for our anniversary – thanks to some awesome + free babysitters. 😉
To get kick off our holiday weekend, we threw a picnic brunch in the park! Ellie was thrilled to help me get ready for our “party!” She helped me prep decorations and food and load it all in the mini van. That girl LOVES parties.

Since we don’t have a backyard right now (just a few months more!), we opted to have our picnic at the park. Just a few blocks away is one of our favorite parks – we walk there a few times a week! I love all the trees and green, so I kept our decor super simple. Our checkered tablecloth added a lot of texture and color, and paired with bright berry baskets, platters from home and fresh blooms, we were able to add a lot of bright pops of color, while still keeping it simple and festive. 🙂 (P.S. THIS course is awesome for party prep and find tips HERE for easy grocery store floral design.)

I originally had a few activities planned (like this scavenger hunt!) – but since we had such an age range and we all happen to be talkative, I’ll be honest, I totally forgot all about them! We elected for chatting in the shade and chasing children on the playground. The kids were more than happy to play on the swings and persuade Uncle Zac to hold them up for the monkey bars. 🙂 Not to mention, we were all munching on the food!!
My favorite meal of the day is breakfast, so hello, I was in heaven! We served fruit galore, and plenty of yummy breakfast foods – like these new Honey Maid Dippers (in chocolate + honey) and dark chocolate creme & peanut butter belVita’s breakfast sandwiches. Talk about DELICIOUS. We originally bought a few boxes in advance at Walmart to save for our brunch, but we ended up finishing off the boxes well before the party. Oops. 🙂 They’re seriously that good. We served the Honey Maid Dippers in a yogurt parfait – they were a hit! Light vanilla yogurt + raspberries + Honey Maid Dippers + a dash of cinnamon = heavenly! Breakfast for you, treats for them!
My brother LOVES crazy socks, and I loved this floral print!
Three cheers for the USA! So blessed to live in this beautiful country. And I feel so blessed to be surrounded by my people this weekend. I’m thinking a weekend brunch may have to become a yearly tradition. Nothing like good food, family, and glorious sunshine! Hope your weekend was marvelous my friends! XO

P.S. Next time you’re at Walmart, grab some Honey Maid Dippers and belVita Breakfast Sandwiches and save .50 on Honey Maid Dippers with an Instant Rebate Coupon. You’ll thank me later, I promise! 😉
