Growing up with a brother three years younger than me meant three things: 1. I got tackled, a lot. By the time I was four or five, my brother Spenc already outweighed me, so I didn’t have a chance when it came to our wrestling matches. Oftentimes, I resulted to tattling, which resulted in 2. taking the blame for most things. Or so my dramatic childhood self thought. π However, having a brother close in age also meant that 3. I had someone to sneak into the kitchen with and enjoy a midnight snack. Of course, I’m not sure our “sneaking” was very quiet, as we pulled out cereal boxes and slammed the fridge door shut a few times. Yes, cereal parties at our house were quite frequent. We discussed middle school crushes, math homework, and mainly avoided going to bed. I’m sure it kept our parents awake – in fact sometimes they’d join us! – but I’m glad they let us sneak in a few late night snacks every once in awhile. Definitely a cherished memory!
My girls seemed to inherit my cereal loving genes too, makes me so proud. π We’ve been on a big Cheeriosβ’ kick lately – one of the few kinds of cereal we can all agree on! During our last trip to Walmart, we picked up a box of Honey Nut Cheeriosβ’ for me, Ellie and Brian (poor Addie doesn’t get to enjoy those yet, but she loves her regular ones!) Ellie was thrilled that we could share a box with her Uncle Spenc! With Walmart & Cheeriosβ’ new Buy One, Give One Free campaign, you can buy a specially marked box at Walmart, redeem the code online, and share an e-card and coupon for a free box of Cheeriosβ’ with a friend! And seriously, what hungry college student wouldn’t appreciate a free box of cereal? π
While I still occasionally indulge in a bowl of cereal in the evenings, I cannot stop eating these yogurt parfaits for breakfast! I recently made some for a quick on-the-go breakfast, and now I’m hooked! I’ve even made them an hour in advance and when I took one to Brian at work, it tasted super fresh – not even soggy! Plus, they could totally double as a late night snack. π
To make these parfaits, you’ll need
-Plain vanilla yogurt
-Cheeriosβ’ (any flavor)
-Fruit toppings (strawberries are our absolute favorite!)
Layer Cheeriosβ’, yogurt, and fruit in a cup. Adorn with Cheeriosβ’ on top and enjoy! (We used plastic cups for easy disposal on the go!) Seriously try it and please tell me I’m not the only one obsessed. π And don’t forget to share a box with the ones you love! XO
oh my goodness. I cannot believe how much Ellie looks like you when you were younger! so cute. We are a huge fan of cheerios at our house. this looks like a super yummy treat too!
Ellie looks so grown up holding that box of cereal!! And you two twinners? For sure!! Love your happy dispositions and beautiful faces. The parfaits look delicious…we're going to have to give them a try!
What a fabulous memory! I'll have to think of this when my three sneak down for a midnight snack in the future π My brother and I were thick as thieves growing up, but now he lives on the opposite side of the country so I would love to send a box to him! (client)
This is such a cute idea, and such a fond memory!
