Since having Ellie, our morning routines have switched up quite a bit. Before Ellie, I could be showered and ready fast. During the newborn stage, I was lucky if I could even get a shower in! There was a time when Ellie slept in till 9am (so obviously I slept in too. 😉 For a few months I had school, so mornings consisted of homework and studying next to the bouncer.
Now, with a better nap schedule and no school, we have fallen into a little summer routine. I’ve tried to incorporate a few things into our morning schedule, one of which being reading the scriptures. We often read at night as a family, but I wanted to work in some personal study time too. I seem to go in phases where I do really well reading for a while, then not so great. I wanted to jump back on the bandwagon!
Since making scripture study a priority for our mornings, I have noticed a huge difference! Ellie sits on my lap and plays with my bookmark while we read. She jabbers along with me and actually whines when I stop reading or pause for a break. 🙂 Not only does it keep her entertained and happy, but it has been making a HUGE difference in my day! I am a natural worrier and can really stress myself out. 🙂 Now, I’ve noticed myself feeling much more calm, much less stressed. I feel like I handle the regular bumps of the day easier. And the biggest difference is my thoughts. I tend to be very critical of myself, nit-picking my every flaw. Reading the scriptures reminds me which voice I need to listen to, my Heavenly Father’s! I am a daughter of God, and when I remember that, it makes all the difference! He reassures me that my best is good enough and that I should never give up. He reminds me that I am of worth! I am never, ever alone! How glorious is that realization. It makes me happy.
I came across this photo on Pinterest the other day and loved it! I made one for myself to hang on the fridge. It is such a good reminder of which voice we should choose to listen to. 🙂
